So with a title of this blog, you might think I’m about to regale you with a tawdry tale of  sex, murder and mayhem in regards to the seedy underbelly of the truffle trade.

Well not exactly…

But then again, it may just depend on your personal views of what truly is tawdry and sexy.

No, what we are talking about is the sex-life of the truffle in itself.  According to “Scientists reveal the sex wars of the truffle grounds,” from Eurekalert.org, most fungi are “self-lovers,” requiring nothing but itself to reproduce, however, truffles tend to get a little randy.  They like sexually reproducing with a partner of a separate gender.

This is interesting in regards to fungi reproduction in general, as well as, finding new ways to understand truffle growth.  Maybe this will bring about new cultivating techniques of this incredibly expensive delicacy so that we all can afford it.

But then would it be as tasty?

Well,  anyway, isn’t it awesome, that even fungi likes to get it on?
