Now I know what this must sound like, just a cruel joke.  How can anyone lose weight by eating chocolate cake, let alone for breakfast.  Shouldn’t that be the healthiest meal of the day?

According to new research described in the EurekAlert! press release, Top off breakfast with — chocolate cake?, researchers at Tel Aviv University, found that having a well-balanced breakfast with a sweet dessert, can actually help dieters lose weight and keep it off.  So how does it work?

It works by simple fact, that when you wake up, you body has gone with six-nine hours without food.  Your body is hungry and raring to go.  Your metabolism is ramped up.  By enjoying the craving for a sweet sugary dessert in the morning, you will likely burn it off through all your activities throughout the day.  The extra sweet dish can also give you that extra boost of energy in the morning too.

The catch, is that the breakfast, with the dessert, can only be about 600 calories.  Many desserts, at least the really good ones, can easily surpass that amount, but still, eat a little smarter, with a slightly different schedule, you might be able to lose weight and still enjoy some of the more indulgent aspects of life.

Furthermore, according to the researchers, by trying to avoid sweet foods completely, you are in a sense giving them much more power over you than ever before, and a form of psychological addiction can occur, which could make dieting even more difficult.

Enjoy the finer things in life with moderation and you probably turn out okay.

The next time you ask yourself, how you can lose weight, maybe just grab that slice of cake.
